Evolution of Star Rating – Now available for Moodle and Totara
We have significantly updated our Star Rating plugin. Originally designed as a simple filter, it has grown into a versatile tool for managing feedback. This update introduces commenting features, professional moderation options, and a dedicated version for Totara. We’ve also added full support for the Moodle Report Builder to make your feedback data more accessible.
The plugin offers a flexible way to collect and manage user feedback via shortcodes in any text region. By leveraging Moodle’s restriction engine, ratings can be tied to specific milestones such as activity completions or grades.
What’s new?
Comment Functionality & Management
Ratings can now be supplemented with comments, providing more context to user feedback. In the global settings, you can define specific star-rating thresholds to automatically trigger a comment prompt or decide when comments remain optional. Management is handled directly via standard Moodle roles and permissions, allowing you to define exactly who can view, write, or moderate comments site-wide.
A dedicated filter allows you to display all comments in one place. Access is governed by standard permissions, defining who can read, edit, or moderate the entries.
Report Builder Support
To help you analyze feedback, we’ve added a new report source for the Moodle/Totara Report Builder. You can now generate custom reports and dashboards based on rating data directly within Moodle, without needing external tools.

Official Totara Compatibility
Alongside the Moodle version, we now offer a dedicated variant for Totara. This version is specifically optimized for Totara environments, ensuring the plugin works reliably within its enterprise framework.
