Introducing the powerful Rating element

We’re excited to announce the latest release of the Content Designer plugin, bringing a whole new dimension to learner feedback with the introduction of the Rating element!

With the new Rating feature, course creators can now collect real-time feedback from students directly during the learning process — not just afterward. This continuous evaluation empowers you to adapt courses dynamically and support personalized learning journeys like never before.

Using customizable Moodle-defined scales, ratings can easily integrate with adaptive learning paths, trigger Pulse notifications, or contribute to cross-course reporting. Whether you want to gather insights at different stages of your course or steer learners toward tailored content based on their responses, the Rating element makes it simple and powerful.

In addition, the new Variables logic allows course creators to structure evaluations meaningfully across multiple courses. You can link ratings to variables, group them into types, and build empirically grounded reporting structures — providing a broader and deeper understanding of feedback trends across your curriculum.

To top it all off, you are able to create individual learning paths by controlling access to activities or sections depending on how students respond to ratings or polls.

And when it comes to insights, the enhanced Reporting capabilities now offer a versatile data source for Moodle’s Report Builder. Thanks to the variable framework, you can perform cross-course, data-driven evaluations, track learner development over time, and even analyze familiar metrics like the Net Promoter Score (NPS) with ease.

We can’t wait to see how you’ll use the new Rating element to create even more dynamic, responsive learning experiences! 🚀

What’s new in Content Designer?

New Rating Element

Collect real-time feedback during the course — not just at the end! Support adaptive learning paths, trigger notifications, and gather insights that guide the learning journey.

This course evaluation example shows rating items linked to specific variables. Once students submit their answer, the most common responses from others are revealed.

Ratings can be embedded within a learning activity and thus refer directly to the content.

Visual scales using only emojis can also be created. Depending on the target audience or the tone of the course, this can be a more casual way to engage learners.

Course path integration

Unlock activities or sections based on learner responses to ratings or polls, creating dynamic and personalized learning experiences.

The learning unit made available depends on how the student rated their area of interest.

The Levels course format is used here, with each activity shown as a circle. Students first complete a self-assessment through ratings. Based on their responses, they then unlock their first learning unit within the relevant competency area.

In this course using the Designer format, students complete a course feedback. Depending on their response, a Pulse activity with teacher feedback becomes visible. Pulse can also send a matching email notification.

Reporting

Use the new Rating element as a versatile data source for Moodle’s Report Builder — including tracking progress over time or analyzing Net Promoter Scores.

Link ratings to variables and types to enable powerful, data-driven evaluations across multiple courses.

Compare ratings over time and across multiple courses.
