This release combines all changes from Video Time 1.9 and 1.10 and introduces several improvements across activity creation, accessibility, reporting, and Moodle integration. A key focus of this update is the extended support for VideoJS.
What’s new in Video Time?
Course activity enhancements
Instant activity creation
Create a fully configured Video Time activity in seconds with an intuitive drag-and-drop workflow.
- Drag and drop any video file directly onto the course page
- Upload local media to Moodle in a single action
- For Vimeo Enterprise: local uploads transfer automatically to Vimeo, including metadata and embedding (Requires Media Time + Vimeo Enterprise integration)
Create a Video Time activity using our Drag & Drop feature.
Preview mode (expanded support) (PREMIUM)
Keep long course pages clean with a compact video preview — now also supported for VideoJS.
- Displays video title, duration and thumbnail
- Learners open the full player only when needed
- Configure 1–4 previews per row and adjust thumbnail size
- Optionally show or hide the play button (Vimeo only)
- New: Previously Vimeo-only, now available for VideoJS
Here, the first video is set as a full-width video with a player button. Users can see their watch progress as an indicator directly in the preview.
Extended video experience
Chapters: new for local chapters
Local chapter files (VTT) can be uploaded in Moodle and are displayed directly within the video player, allowing structured navigation through key moments of the video.
PRO: Help learners navigate long videos with a fully editable chapter structure inside Video Time.
- Create and manage chapters directly within Video Time
- Learners jump directly to any chapter
- Local storage for full control over structure and visibility
- Vimeo chapters are auto-imported
Learners can view chapter titles and timestamps, and jump directly to any chapter with a click.
Local chapters are fully editable within the Video Time settings through the Chapters Tab.
Local chapters can be renamed and reorganized directly within the activity.
Transcript: new for local captions (PREMIUM)
Improve accessibility and help learners find information faster with synchronized, searchable transcripts.
- Transcript text is indexed by Moodle’s global search
- Click-to-jump navigation from transcript to video
- Upload your own VTT files in Moodle
- Provide multiple language options
- Full local control ensures privacy, compliance and availability
- Vimeo transcripts are auto-imported
Learners can read the transcript while watching and jump to any point in the video with a click.
Edit and manage your local transcript texts via the Transcript Tab within the Video Time activity.
Differentiate between captions and subtitles and structure your text segments in detail. Segments may overlap, allowing the text to build up gradually.
Deep Moodle integration
Global search (expanded to VideoJS)
Enable learners to search across all videos and jump to exact timestamps — now also for VideoJS.
- Indexes transcript text (local or imported)
- Search results link directly to the relevant video moment
Enhanced reporting
Course activity report (PRO)
Gain a consolidated view of engagement with distinct metrics for watch time and covered time (showing how much of the video was actually watched), enhanced by visual progress shading.
- Shows views per instance
- User-level insights with watch time, covered time (new), percentage viewed and completion status
- Visual progress shading: darker segments = more frequent views (new)
- Delete session data when needed
- Export reports for analysis, audits or documentation
Example of a Course Activity Report showing views, user-level insights, and visual progress with shaded segments.
Session report (PRO)
Understand exactly how each learner interacts with a video through detailed session-level insights.
- Summary with first access time, total sessions and cumulative watch time
- Timeline visualization showing viewing behavior
- Session-by-session breakdown
- Segment table showing continuous viewing periods without skipping
- Supports audits, compliance workflows and deep learning analytics
Detailed overview of all video sessions, combined with a visualization where shading indicates how often each part of the video was watched.
