Advanced Automation Conditions & Notification Enhancements

This release significantly expands Pulse’s automation and notification capabilities, enabling more precise learner engagement, smarter progress-based workflows, and improved stakeholder communication.

What’s new in Pulse?

User inactivity condition

Trigger automations when learners are inactive based on course access or activity completion. Optional settings allow automations to require prior learner activity before triggering.

Users receive a notification due to inactivity.

Define whether inactivity is based on course access or activity completion. Optionally require prior activity to avoid triggering automations for users who never started the course.

Course group condition

Restrict automations to learners based on course group or grouping membership, enabling targeted workflows in group-based teaching scenarios.

Restrict automations to recipients based on course groups.

Notify the responsible teachers based on course group membership – for precise communication, faster feedback, and structured teaching workflows.

Course date triggers

Automatically trigger automations on course start or end dates – ideal for onboarding, reminders, and course wrap-up communication.

Enhanced activity completion conditions

Automations can now react to detailed completion states, including partial completion, pass/fail results, and activity count thresholds, allowing workflows to align with real learning progress instead of simple completion flags.

Improved Events condition

Admins can control which Moodle events are available for automations via a global allowlist. In addition, event triggers can be limited to course-wide events or restricted to a specific activity context, reducing noise and improving configuration clarity.

Flexible recipient targeting (improved)

Send notifications to recipients based on course roles, course group context, or user-level roles – including users outside the course such as mentors or parents. Notifications can also be sent to predefined external email addresses (e.g. HR departments or support teams), ensuring all relevant stakeholders are informed.
