the first one being um what we call
Standard injections and by standard I
mean the ones which rely on mood core
activities and we quickly wanted to just
have a quick run through them um you
know them all you know what a forum is
you know what a quiz is you know what a
choices and I just wanted to mention but
I think it's it's it's fair and relevant
to don't forget about all of them so we
always try to use core functionality
whenever we can um and without going
into too much Theory let's just Dive
Right into today's demo course which is
the interactions demo course which of
course you will get access to later on
so in this demo course I've created one
section for these standard interactions
here so if we have a look here you'll
see that there's a couple of common mood
activities and I really just want to
quickly walk through them why I like
them why I put them up here and just as
a as a little hint or maybe a suggestion
uh to why I would think they make sense
first of all one of my personal
favorites is the choice the choice is
extremely simple you literally just have
to add one question and the answers and
that is it you will immediately get
something which is really nice starting
interaction so something to get started
in a course where people just
immediately get into the flow and the
culture of not being just passive of
reacting to something uh which really
sets the tone for a cause which is not
only consuming stuff it is really
interacting with it um and while this is
a very simple way it is still very
effective so I can really encourage you
to use the choice it's simple it's easy
it's core it's
free that's that's not unimportant as
well and um it provides a nice Anonymous
or non-anonymous way to get feedback
from your
students the second thing would be a
pre-evaluation so obviously um the self-
evaluation here is more for reflection
whereas the pre-evaluation can actually
be used so you actually have results
that you can use for later paths to put
people in groups to conditionally
provide activities and resources to them
so I can highly encourage just having a
couple of questions um to to show people
maybe the topics maybe the most
important questions that you have in
your course and help them reflect how
they stand in in those topics so we like
to put a lot of information into the
general feedback of questions because
that's the most valuable because it's
shown to everybody usually no matter if
they answered right or wrong so I can
highly encourage you to use the quiz
just as a Mains for for students to to
see how where where they are provide the
results to them not to to tell them
they're bad just to to tell them hey
that's a field where you're good that's
a field where you're bad that's a field
where you where you can improve that's a
field where we will cover things that's
a field where you might want to read
something like like an article or a web
link uh before continuing with the
course uh just to be a little adaptive
and a little focused on what students
and lears actually
need third one is the the like the
obvious candidate the elephant in the
room is discussion form of course this
requires some resources on your end so
that you can moderate The Forum um one
little trick that we like to do is that
instead of having one big Forum um
splitting it up in learning groups or
dedicated forums for special special
groups
because the less people in there are in
in a forum the less critical it is uh
that if there's something in there which
you should probably moderate or don't
want to leave there it's just viewed by
less people so one thing that we really
like to do is build learning groups for
example using the uh the third party
module um group self- selection which
you can get from the mle plugin database
so that people can simply like create
their own groups and then join them um
invite others to join their learning
groups too and then have their own
separate Forum within the discussion
forum um it's a really nice feature and
you can use it for various scenarios
learning groups being one of them the
other one being that depending on the
group that they picked so that could
either be um I've got an example here
which I can show you so you can either
use that for um groups that are learning
groups so night dos for example would be
one learning Group which usually tries
to learn at night whereas performer and
relaxed would
uh groups that are targeted as specific
learning paths so let's assume that you
have people in a course which might have
very different prior knowledge uh or
maybe different time that they can
afford to spend in the course so maybe
you want to have a group for performers
which are able to spend let's say more
than an hour per day and for relax
people which might spend less than one
hour per day uh both will complete the C
the end um but they might do that at
their own pace and therefore you can use
the self- selection of a group to let
people simply make a decision whether
they want to be in that group or that
group it's also a really nice feature um
which can be used to to make a cause a
little more detective and also more
interactive because people actually pick
what they want they pick their learning
group they pick their Pace their pick
maybe their level um so there's a lot to
to to use here um even without any
additional plugins if you just like let
the teacher assign people to the
groups similar to the choice in the
beginning with a s valuation um what I
also really like is this espresso
feedback uh which is nothing else than a
very simple question again um which I
like to put at the end of a section at
the end of a module at the end of a week
depending on how you structure your
courses just to provide some basic
feedback uh which is very simple which
doesn't cost you anything um it's just a
nice way to to use the choice in my
opinion last not least um the feedback
activity obviously is also a big
candidate for interactions I suggest to
do um even if you don't do anything else
uh just have something like a big large
text box where people can put in their
comments if you really want to get
feedback and encourage them to add more
feedback just make make the Box bigger
psychology really works here so just
make the Box bigger and people will tend
to write more so if you don't mind
reading more feedback just make the Box
bigger and you'll get more um human
psychology is sometimes that easy
fortunately or unfortunately depending
how you said so um while there are more
activities um from Moodle uh these are I
think easy to implement they are core
they can be used right away you don't
need to spend a lot of time for that
concep they're easy too and you could
put them in a a course template which
you can then use to roll up many courses
so even if you don't want your teachers
to create all those yourself you can
actually have many of those just sitting
ready in a course template disabled or
invisible and the only thing that
teachers need to do is basically I want
that and therefore I make that visible
so you can really without any effort
really have more interactions in the
course without touching the content of
the course that's that's I think the
bottom line to this part here maybe with
the exception of the quiz but the bottom
line is even if you don't have the
resources or the ability to change the
content because maybe that is provided
by a subject matter expert and you can't
get more resources from that person um
you can still do quite a few things to
to make the course more interactive and
more engaging just by very simple means
of these activities so in order to use
messaging in the calls um it's actually
quite easy is just one step that is
really required and the thing is you
need to set up a group um so let's let's
have a look so we've got student one and
the night olds um and I'm just going to
put myself in the night olds too there
we go and maybe one more so let's put um
St is already there so let's let's
put nidol in here too so we've got a
couple of people in the nidol and if I
go to the groups and go to the night
olds and edit the group settings I can
turn on group messaging here so
messaging in itself is always available
on your Moodle site unless your site
administrator has turned it off but what
I was referring to is actually really
just group messaging so let's let's make
it a little nicer because we can um I'm
going to put in a nice image
here I've turned on messaging for that
group and because I'm member of that
group I can now look
at okay I'm apparently haven't added the
right Stefan to the group yeah probably
I'm yeah I'm I'm this one sorry so I'm
now becoming an idol too and once I've
done
so I can just open the messaging drawer
and I see the night olds group from the
course interactions and then I can just
start
typing
so um this is really super simple you
see the participants of that group has a
nice little picture um and the only
thing that I needed to do for that is of
course first of all create the group so
go to groups create
group I don't know uh let's say course
chat maybe so if you want to add anybody
from a course to to uh to that
group messaging
yes and then I can simply say add remove
users if you want to do it manually if
you want to do it automatically there's
a plugin called I think it's called
metag group or something like that um I
can look for it later on and put it into
to the chat so that you can see it and
check it out um so um so you can just
add all of those to the group and once
you've done that in the group you have
call chat and you can there whatever
like discuss with all your students if
you want

that
